Queen of Shadows Blog Tour + Art + Giveaway

I was thrilled last year when Alexa, Jaz, Judith, Katie and Rachel asked me to be one of the Maas Thirteen and join in the blog tour for Heir of Fire. I made some character collages that I'm pretty proud of, and it even lead to the COOLEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. I'm totally stoked that they asked me to be on it again for Queen of Shadows, because I could shout about this series until the wyverns come home. Or something.

I love visual stuff, which is why I went with the collages last year, but this year I decided to make my own stuff, because that's my favorite way to express my love for something! Below you'll find new pictures that you can turn into wallpapers (I give you permission to crop and resize and do whatever you need to do to make a background, since hell if I know how to do that) and that I've put up on my Society6 to be turned into fancy mugs and totes and shirts and all sorts of miraculous things. It's a party, and it's all inspired by the glorious, life-ruining, brilliant Queen of Shadows.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past . . .

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die just to see her again. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen's triumphant return.

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

And now, the art!

Aelin print

This book is so very much about AELIN that I really wanted to make a print that would perfectly represent her for who she is now in full. She's a queen, she's a warrior, she's living fire, and she's the hope of Terrasen, represented by the white stag. Also I made the background green because TERRASEN GREEN HELL YEAH (I pictured Terrasen green as a deeper, more forest-y hunter green, but that made this look straight up Christmas and that's not the look I was going for). Click to see closer up if you want!
Celaena to Aelin

I love how many personas and identities our heroine has to wear and shed before she becomes herself.
Fire-Breathing Bitch Queen

The actual best thing to come out of the whole book.

Lady of Shadows, Queen of Light

This drawing and the two different treatments/text quotes represent allllll the complicated and multifaceted women in this book who deal with light and darkness but LITERAL and metaphorical. Those could both be Aelin, or they could represent other ladies, other spoilery spoiler ladies, all of whom are Queens of Shadows in their own way.

I find that a very male thing to assume

This is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE QUOTES not only of the whole book, but of the whole series. Possibly of my whole life. It's uttered in great disdain by Our Lord and Savior, Manon Blackbeak, and basically sums up my life aesthetic.

How to Train Your Wyvern

Do you want to join a coven of blood witches flying wyverns into battle because I DO

I've put all this arty junk up on Society6, which means it's totally possible to get this stuff on totes, mugs, phone cases, t-shirts, pillows, rugs, sweaters, duvet covers, and, I kid you not, shower curtains (if someone gets and Aelin print duvet or shower curtain, my life would be MADE). You can also send a girl you love a card that says "Fire-breathing bitch queen" which is the best way I know to say ilu, personally.

KID YOU NOT YOU CAN TOTALLY SLEEP ON A BED OF DEER OR EVEN SHOWER BEHIND THEM
